Episode 25: Put A Spell On You

May 13, 2017
00:0000:00

After months where our lives got in the way (Again! We know! We're sorry!) Miró and Kathryn are back with a bushel full of book recommendations. Some we loved: learn about our BAWOTES in The Story of Jane by Laura Kaplan, and listen to us (mostly Kath) ramble on about giving Mansfield Park multiple chances. Some we liked: we finally talk about Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl. And some we didn't: A Discovery of Witches and Cork Dork. Listen! Read! Recommend your recent favorites to us using the #MttMPod

Episode 24: Big Girl Big Time Stuff

January 18, 2017
00:0000:00

It's the first episode of 2017 and we're not big into spoilers so you're just gonna have to listen to the show to find out what shenanigans we're up to! [hint: it's awards season]

Katherine Johnson*, a black physicist and mathematician critical to NASA for over three decades, is our BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode). You may have heard of her because she is one of the subjects of the award-winning and box-office-busting movie Hidden Figures.

As always, we want to hear from YOU! Tweet to us at #MttMPod and tell us your thoughts about the episode, a badass woman we should know about, or about anything, really.

*Note: Kathryn accidently called BAWOTE Katherine Jacobsen (instead of Johnson) on the show. Katherine Jacobsen is the name of a woman she went to college with - we apologize for the mistake.

Episode 23: How Dated Can a Vampire Really Be?

December 6, 2016
00:0000:00

We're baaaccckkkk!!! After a crazy fall Miró and Kath are back behind the mic and we've got a lot to catch up on.  The BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode) is Solange Knowles with some guest badassery courtesy of her mother, Tina Knowles. Too much fabulousness to explain here, just go listen.

Kath discusses why Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be the balm for our post-election wounds (and yes, it's still relevant!) and we escape further into the fantasy world with reviews of YA novels Seraphina and Carry On

Taking it back to reality, Kath finally names her "watch a movie by a creepy person, give back to something good," mission: Filmanthropy.

Side note: For the record, the actual Elizabeth Cady Stanton quote we reference is, “In a word, I am always busy, which is perhaps the chief reason why I am always well.”

Episode 22: Miró Forgot the Title

October 9, 2016
00:0000:00

In episode 22 Miró and Kath discuss Fashion Week, rant about Yeezy (yes, again), give you some updates on what grandma TV you should be watching, and discuss this topic: "what are we doing with our lives?" (Please don't answer that).

Bonus points to the person who can figure out the two reasons the outro music was chosen!

This episode our BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode) is Emma Rowena Gatewood (aka Grandma Gatewood) who, at 67, was the first woman to complete a solo hike through the Appalachian Trail. Enough said, go learn more in this episode!

Episode 21: Cats is a Bridge Too Far

August 6, 2016
00:0000:00

It's the 21st episode and MttM can finally drink! So we thought we'd celebrate by drinking while recording, too. Get our tipsy take on the Olympics Opening Ceremony, Pokemon Go, and Cats the Musical.

This episode our BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode) is threefold: Olympians Zahra Nemati from Iran, Syrian refugee Yusra Mardini, and Oksana Chusovitina from Uzbekistan.

Episode 20: Filthy.Stinkin.Rich.

July 13, 2016
00:0000:00

In which we accidentally spend the entire episode talking about rich people. Rich people killing each other, rich people during debutante season, rich women saying "fuck it I'm happier without a man," rich women saying "fuck it, I'd rather hang out with my gay bestie than my husband," rich people at boarding school. But we PROMISE it's fascinating. Just trust us.

There's enough book recommendations to fill the next four months, Kath compares An American in Paris the-sexist-movie-version to An American in Paris the-modernized-musical, and our BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode) is Wendy Davis, former Texas senator and founder of Deeds Not Words.

Episode 19: Maybe Too Much Fun

June 13, 2016
00:0000:00
*Note: this episode was recorded before the tragedy at Pulse in Orlando. All our love is with the victims, survivors, and the LGBTQ community.
In Episode 19 Kath guilt trips Miró for not listening to the Hamilton soundtrack, Miró guilt trips Kath for not watching Transparent. We introduce BAWOTE (Badass Woman of the Episode) Loretta Lynch and discuss her speech against the "bathroom bill." The remake of Roots is now on TV and everyone seems to have an opinion. When is a reboot good and when is it time to move on? And finally, your summer reading essentials, why Chick Lit book covers may ruin your next great discovery, and how murderous monks may be the perfect calming escape from your cray boss.

Episode 18: Don’t Have to Be Rich to Be Our Girl

April 25, 2016
00:0000:00

No, you don't have to be rich, you just have to be on the $10 bill. Prince has passed away but our girl Elizabeth Cady Stanton made it onto the big 1-0! Kath tells us about our Badass Woman of the Episode: inventor, actress, and free-the-nipple-er before her time, Hedy Lamarr. We share some big news. And the question still stands, "Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?"
